Use With Switch Mode Power Supplies

All 4QD controllers have been designed primarily for battery operation. But it is possible to use them with switch mode power supplies, provided that the following points are borne in mind;

• Earthing; Earlier analogue models such as the DNO and 4QD-300 are quite happy to have the earth of the PSU connected to the B- terminal. However, our newer digital models have a much more sophisticated internal power supply, and we have seen cases where connecting B- to earth has caused damage to a Pro-360. It depends on the actual model of PSU used and its internal capacitance, but we recommend leaving the B- rail floating.
• Regen braking; Not all switch mode supplies are able to handle the reverse current that flows when regen braking occurs. Check the capability of your PSU.
