Overheating in Boats

If you are using the 4QD series in a boat then you should pay particular attention to airflow and cooling to prevent the controller from overheating.

  1. It’s not kind to shut your controller away in a sealed locker without ventilation.
  2. Mount the heatsink to a suitable metallic mounting point, the more mass the mounting has, the more heat it can absorb and dissipate.
  3. Try to ensure that the controller has a good flow of cool, dry air over it.
  4. If necessary fit a PC type fan to the case.
  5. See this page for more details…. https://www.4qd.co.uk/knowledgebase-2/improving-heat-dissipation/

We also have a range of additional heatsinks that can be used to improve the thermal performance.
