Use with shunt wound motors
Posted
Updated
Here’s a diagram showing how to use a 4QD controller with shunt wound motors. The principle is to use the brake driver to activate a relay that feeds the field winding, and to use the main motor feed to drive the armature winding. Although we drew it for the Pro-150, this arrangement will work for any 4QD controller that has a brake driver.
Note: This arrangement assumes a field winding rated the same voltage as the armature. Some motors [particularly golf buggies] need a lower field voltage, in this case it is possible to connect the field coil positive supply to a mid-point on the battery bank.
